"Newcastle Bridge", also known as "Col. Ridley's Quick March" is a Scottish jig in
A Major. The parts are played AABB.
It was composed by Abraham Mackintosh (b. 1769), son of Scottish composer and violinist
Robert 'Red Rob' Mackintosh. Although born in Scotland, Abraham Mackintosh established
himself in Newcastle in the midst of his career as a music teacher and dancing master.
"Newcastle Bridge" was composed by Macintosh as "Col. Ridley's Quick March" and appears
in his Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs, etc.
It was printed in Hunter's Fiddle Music of Scotland (1988),
Macintosh's Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs, etc. and
Bancalari's Celtic Encyclopedia, Mandolin Edition (1999).
